Communications and Engagement Coordinator

WA Youth Theatre Company’s new Communications and Engagement Coordinator will be an enthusiastic and organised arts worker, passionate about offering great opportunities to young people in Western Australia. 


  • 0.4FTE position, $50,000 pro rata (plus 9.5% superannuation)
  • Reporting to the General Manager
  • Perth CBD based

WAYTCo creates diverse and accessible pathways in the practice and experience of theatre arts for young Western Australians. We deliver professionally led, collaborative theatre making and performance training with young people aged 13 and 26 years. Our artistic endeavours champion the diversity of our members’ voices and stories. The high-quality performances created with and by our engaged young artists stimulate and inspire audiences and enrich the wider community.

We are looking for someone passionate and highly motivated to join our small, hard-working team. The Communications and Engagement Officer will be integral to developing positive working relationships with our members, schools and with the general public.

Your application should include:

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills
  • Exceptional time management skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in digital marketing and social media strategy and delivery
  • High level of computer literacy, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
  • Current Working with Children Check and Police Clearance are required


  • Experience working in the performing arts
  • Experience working productively with young people
  • Knowledge of schools
  • Tertiary qualification in the arts or communications



Role: Communications and Engagement Coordinator

Currency: Part Time, 2 days per week, 0.4 FTE (until December 2020), a flexible approach to working hours is essential.

Location: King Street Arts Centre, Perth

Remuneration: $50,000 pro rata (plus 9.5% superannuation)

Reports to: General Manager

Responsibilities & Tasks: 


  • Use contemporary marketing and digital media strategies to promote events, grow membership, leverage support and extend the Company’s reputation
  • Create and distribute media releases and maintain a media contacts database
  • Develop promotional copy for events and programs
  • Update and maintain WAYTCO’s social media platforms in collaboration with the Youth Advisory Committee 
  • Prepare and send regular electronic communications including newsletters and invitations to database 
  • Build and maintain subscriber database
  • Develop content for and maintain WAYTCo’s website
  • Arrange event documentation, liaising with photographers and filmmakers 
  • Maintain digital archive of photographs, film, media


  • Develop and maintain relationships with teachers for the delivery of WAYTCo’s programs in schools, under the guidance of the Artistic Director
  • Maintain a schools and teacher database
  • Work with the General Manager and Artistic Director on the logistics of delivering schools programs, including liaising with tutors
  • Administer audience and participant surveys for programs and performances
  • Develop and distribute targeted communications for key communities of interest
  • Maintain the membership database
  • Support WAYTCo in the development of diversity and engagement strategies of both participants and audiences
  • Keep regular contact with the Youth Advisory Committee


  • Assist in the delivery of programs and performances as required
  • Assist the General Manager and Artistic Director to prepare grant applications and sponsorship proposals
  • Assist the General Manager in reporting to sponsors and funding bodies
